The BeBo network was established by the Swedish Energy Agency, in 1989, together with about 20 major property owners of multi-family buildings. The purpose was to enhance the energy efficiency focus. The members of BeBo consists of both private and public property owners, as well as Swedens largest organizations for housing associations.

The aim of the BeBo network initiative is to push the bar when it comes to energy efficiency in the built environment. The goal is to reduce dependence on energy, in terms of heat and electricity in apartment buildings, as well as to reduce the environmental impact of energy use in the residential sector.

The strategy to achieve this is to initiate projects for developing, demonstrating and evaluating methods and technologies for energy efficient homes. The network operates mainly in three types of projects: full-scale demonstration projects, technology procurement for specific technical challenges, and general dissemination of project results and related information.
